Christchurch via the lakes.

Firstly let us start by thanking you for all your comments along the way. We still have till next Thursday before we finally open the door back into Treen Towers, so not quite over yet. Although, when we fly off from Christchurch airport on Saturday, we are pretty sure it will feel like the beginning of the end. But do keep commenting we do love to read them and if you have not done so yet, please do because we hope to include comments as well as pictures in our ‘blurb’ book once we throw it all together.

The day was just beautiful. We thought yesterday was so good so we took as many Mount Cook pictures as we could, fearing it would be obscured this morning. Wrong. It was another clear, sharp, unpolluted day and I think we over did the number of pictures of mountain and lake but do you know what? Who cares? It is a once in a lifetime look at the world and we don’t have to bother about how many shots we have left on the reel of 36 anymore, so we haven’t!

Such a dramatic mountain.
Such a dramatic mountain.

The journey took us through Lake Tekapo, Fairlie, Geraldine, Ashburton, Chertsey and across the longest bridge in New Zealand at Rakaia. So funny when you see such familiar names. And like all the other journeys round each bend and over each hill the scenery, just as you thought you had a handle on it, changed completely.

The sign to Twizel!
The sign to Twizel!

Ever since we planned this crazy excursion and had gazed at the map of New Zealand, we had hankered after seeing a place called ‘Twizel’. Yesterday we got our wish and it wasn’t nearly as exciting as we had hoped! Shame but you can’t win them all.

Lake Pukaki.
Lake Pukaki.
Still Lake Pukaki.
Still Lake Pukaki.

As always some flowers and strange sights en route. Some of which we need your help with folks.

Anybody know the name for this little beauty.

Any ideas? We haven't a clue.

So we are eating out tonight, as we are back in a small B & B. Not sure after all this travelling, humping suitcases and even walking that any weight has been lost at all! Gulp.
Take care everyone and we hope you enjoy the last few days of our journey.

Malcolm and Mary

Malcolm worked for LWT. Mary worked for TRL. They live near Camberley in Surrey and did achieve their life long ambition to visit New Zealand. They have two daughters Laura and Hannah and two grandchildren Zach & Safi. Having done the big trip they then went to Canada, which was amazing. Scroll down it’s all here. They have visited Venice that they both so fell in love with in 2009 again. And recently returned to Lefkada for one week in glorious sunshine. Where next? Well, Canada is calling again in 2019; this time including Alaska. So stay tuned if you enjoy the ups and downs of travelling.

  3. When you plan these things, you think “Six weeks?” And wonder about how extraordinary it is to have six weeks of a single trip. And will you still be talking to each other by the end!!

Well the time has shot by over here whilst being regaled with your diary.
it had certainlt reawakened our recollections of NZ, and perhaps we have enjoyed your notes all the more because we’ve been there ourselves.

Enjoy your last couple of days in NZ and then Singapore!
