White rabbits! The 1st of March. Lakes & Mountains

Breakfast and away to the town to get on the TSS Earnslaw for a trip round the lake. Stopping on the way to buy a replacement lens cap for Mary’s camera, the original lost no doubt in a deep flower bed somewhere. Low and behold on board was a pianist just as Mike Hull had foretold: it will be interesting to know if it’s the same pianist he saw all those years ago. Looking at her settled appearance on the old piano, I suspect it was!

Once more the views came thick and fast.

There were some superb faces around: even better than spending a morning people watching at the arrivals hall of Heathrow Terminal 5.

He watched intently but looked so bored.

An excellent lunch back on shore and then off to the cable car. Malcolm’s torn cartlidge finally beginning to get the better of him. But it has stood up very well to so many weeks of punishment.

Fly me to the moon! Well not quite.

Wow! And another jaw dropped.

Very impressive day. We can’t quite think what Blackwater is going to look like after all this open space. “Contained” is probably as good a word as any. So as we head for the Italian restaurant in town called Sasso, we thank you again for reading and the Odyssey continues.

Malcolm and Mary

Malcolm worked for LWT. Mary worked for TRL. They live near Camberley in Surrey and did achieve their life long ambition to visit New Zealand. They have two daughters Laura and Hannah and two grandchildren Zach & Safi. Having done the big trip they then went to Canada, which was amazing. Scroll down it’s all here. They have visited Venice that they both so fell in love with in 2009 again. And recently returned to Lefkada for one week in glorious sunshine. Where next? Well, Canada is calling again in 2019; this time including Alaska. So stay tuned if you enjoy the ups and downs of travelling.

  1. More amazing photos, although the view from the room is slightly less glamorous than some! Xx

    1. It was a very strange hotel, like nothing we have ever stayed in, architecturally wise. But all designed, so that everyone got a view of the lake from your balcony. So putting up with the prison interior feel as you walked along the corridors was compensated by that fact.

  2. Lucky us! We have really, really done very well with the weather so mustn’t grumble. God there are some tedious Americans around, apologies to all Americans who are not obviously, but the way some of these people behave towards staff in restaurants and hotels is beyond belief. I would have just given them a good smacking but the patience of the staff has really to be admired.

    1. Hi Mary and Malcolm
Loving following your journey through this wonderful country. Bringing back more and more memories.
We bumped into Suzanne Clark in the supermarket yesterday here in Grenada, and just to clarify the link – she knows your neighbour, Sarah Bailey ? She was pretty amazed – another event to add to my Small World stories ? Take care, and hope the weather is not as grim as your friend, Martin, predicts! Looking forward to getting together in the summer. Lots a love xx

      1. Sarah Bailey, it is! As she is following our blog I guess she will read this and go “OMG”. Small world it is, looking at the sunrise here in Queenstown and listening to my pre recorded programme going out on Radio Frimley Park. The top ten movie themes as voted for by the Classic F M listeners. A little belta if I say so myself! Yes indeed roll on the summer. M & M xxx
UPDATE:How about this for your small world book: what was number one? Lord of the Rings, where are we ? Q.E.D.

  3. Stunning stuff yet again!…The Earnslaw featured in the TV3 Opening extravaganza promo. With the stoker, stoking then offering a cheeky salute to the camera…Loved the high shots. When I went up there it was snowing!..Take it easy and slowly to Dunedin tomorrow..Rain is expected in Q’town in the morning then east to Dunedin by afternoon..You could well be travelling along with it!..Bugga…Luv, M&S..
