Wanaka to Te Anau

So we said farewell to John and Glynis and also to Malcolm and Denise who arrived last night at the same lodgings. (He was the ‘Audley Hot Spot’ chap from way back in Hot Water Beach B & B.) They had been superb hosts and nothing seemed too much trouble. It really has to be a difficult gig being so nice to people ALL the time.

John & Glynis probably SO glad to see the back of us!

Poor Denise had dropped her phone down the toilet way back at Hot Water Beach, and last night John suggested a final remedy to try and dry it out which was to put it in a bag of rice overnight. He supplied the rice, the bag, and Denise removed her SIM card to get more air into it. Sadly we may never know the outcome of whether this method got it working again, unless our paths cross in the last week or so in New Zealand. I can’t believe I have just written those eight last words!

The drive was leisurely (!!!!!) and some of the views we shall photograph on the return journey on Saturday to Queenstown because we retrace our steps.

There was more activity in some of the gorges, than on some of the lakes we passed.

Easy does it.

And for the first time I think I will dare to show you a sheep photo! They have got the biggest flocks I have ever seen: the same applies to the cows and yes also a surprise, a remarkable number of deer. But if you are going to have venison on the menu I guess…..

"Hey you!" "No, not you, ewe." "You, ewe."
“Hey you!” “No, not you, ewe.” “You, ewe.”

Our new host Roger welcomed us to Dunluce, his wife Wendy was elsewhere. Right tomorrow is an early start to Milford Sound, but we are being picked up. Enjoy the bed and enjoy the view. Thank you for reading and your kind comments. We obviously struck a chord with that road bridge with the railway line down the middle of it! Not the sort of thing you are ever likely to forget, that’s for sure.
Take care and sleep well yourselves.

Bye, bye young man.

Someone is going to have to put Mary on the YCC waiting list.

The bed.

The view from the room.

Then this landed on the lawn! Two guests had been up in it to see Dusty Sound, Doubtful Sound and it was Wendy's birthday, so she had had a treat.

Malcolm and Mary

Malcolm worked for LWT. Mary worked for TRL. They live near Camberley in Surrey and did achieve their life long ambition to visit New Zealand. They have two daughters Laura and Hannah and two grandchildren Zach & Safi. Having done the big trip they then went to Canada, which was amazing. Scroll down it’s all here. They have visited Venice that they both so fell in love with in 2009 again. And recently returned to Lefkada for one week in glorious sunshine. Where next? Well, Canada is calling again in 2019; this time including Alaska. So stay tuned if you enjoy the ups and downs of travelling.
