The end of week one.

Well done Audley Travel. When we returned back last night an email was waiting in our room (more self contained flat really) to say one of the times for an excursion later in our tour had changed. Tonight(Sunday) will see our last night at Allegra House. It will be hard to say goodbye to this bed.

Today we concentrated on a little place called Russell, that has quite a history: originally being called Kororareka(sweet Penguin) and the capital of New Zealand, it went downhill pretty quickly in historical terms and by 1835 Charles Darwin described it as full of “the refuse of society.”

Today it is full of restaurants and gift shops which have replaced the grog shops and brothels.

So what else did we see? Well, of course, more beaches: I am really hoping we get to stop and actually dabble our feet in the sea eventually.

Hauai Bay. We think!
Hauai Bay. We think!

Beautiful day round about 25c whatever that means. Tomorrow we move on to the Kauri Coast and the Copthorne Resort, with a twilight tour of the Waipoua Forest, if Malcolm’s toe can take. it! Love a bit of cliffhanger drama, don’t you?

Malcolm and Mary

Malcolm worked for LWT. Mary worked for TRL. They live near Camberley in Surrey and did achieve their life long ambition to visit New Zealand. They have two daughters Laura and Hannah and two grandchildren Zach & Safi. Having done the big trip they then went to Canada, which was amazing. Scroll down it’s all here. They have visited Venice that they both so fell in love with in 2009 again. And recently returned to Lefkada for one week in glorious sunshine. Where next? Well, Canada is calling again in 2019; this time including Alaska. So stay tuned if you enjoy the ups and downs of travelling.

  1. Hi M&M, I see Simon has gotten in before me!!!! Mary, I’m beginning to think you should join the YCC and enter some of your photos in the competitions! Malcolm, you and I have something in common, mail boxes!! Love them too. You really are seeing some beautiful sites. Look after that toe Malcolm, hope it feels better soon. Sandra.

  2. I’m waiting with baited breath re the saga of Malcolm’s toe, ooh the excitement is getting to me. That photo of Mary by the beach shows car tracks going into the sea!! You haven’t lost your hire car have you?? Love all the posts and you are really having a great time aren’t you.

    Simon

  3. Re the picture sent of Mary looking out to sea – odd how worrying is the car tracks disappearing into the water with absolutely no trace of what made them.
